The 28-year-old son of “Survivor” contestants Brad and Monica Culpepper has died following a dirt bike crash.
Rex Culpepper, who played quarterback at Syracuse from 2017 to 2020, succumbed to injuries suffered Saturday in Georgia, Tampa, Fla., public radio station WUSF reported on Monday.
The former football player was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2024 and reportedly worked for the Morgan & Morgan law firm in Tampa at the time of his death. He was recently engaged to former Syracuse cheerleader Savannah Morgan. She shared her grief on Instagram.
“No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting,” Morgan posted. “Rex didn’t always believe in soulmates but towards the end he told me that he didn’t realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other.”
Morgan said every day she had with “Rexy” was full of fun experiences.
“Our story was a good one babe,” his fiancée concluded.
Culpepper’s famous parents didn’t immediately comment on their son’s death. They competed together on “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” during the reality TV show’s 27th season.
The former football player conquered testicular cancer while studying at Syracuse, where he was remembered for his passion.
“Rex lived his life with endless passion, having overcome cancer at the age of 20 while playing for the Orange,” the school said in a statement. “Appearing in 30 games, Rex played football as fierce as he lived life. Our hearts are with the Culpepper family & all those who loved him.”
His siblings, Honor and Judge Culpepper, mourned their brother’s loss on Instagram.
“Oh, our Rex, our biggest brother,” they wrote alongside a photo of the three of them together. “You were the center of all Universe’s. I don’t have the words right now, and I’m not sure I will.”
Football runs in the Culpepper family bloodlines. Before competing on “Survivor,” Brad Culpepper played college all at the University of Florida before going to the NFL to play for the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears.
