MIAMI — U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, the Democratic incumbent, won the congressional seat in Florida’s newly redrawn District 25 on Tuesday, defeating challenger Scott Singer in a competitive race for one of the most heavily Jewish districts in the country.

Moskowitz earned around 51.5% of the vote to Singer’s 46.4% and will represent a district that runs from Delray Beach down to Miami Beach in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Jewish voters make up around 25% of the majority coastal district. Both candidates highlighted their pro-Israel stance during the campaign season. In a statement following his victory, Moskowitz said he will “continue confronting antisemitism and hate, whether it comes from the far right or the far left.”

“Tonight, South Florida sent a clear message: voters want leaders who think for themselves, stand up to extremes, and deliver results,” Moskowitz said. “This district was re-drawn to defeat me. Voters had other plans.”

Moskowitz, who has served two terms in the House, was raised in Broward County and is a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He helped draft and pass the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, Florida’s most comprehensive gun violence prevention law in more than 20 years.

“Jared Moskowitz helped pass Florida’s school safety law after the mass shooting at his alma mater, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and he hasn’t stopped fighting for safer communities since,” John Feinblatt, president of the gun violence prevention organization Everytown for Gun Safety, said in a statement. “Everytown is thrilled South Florida voters just sent him back to Washington, and we look forward to continuing our work together.”

Moskowitz is an outspoken supporter of Israel, as “one of Congress’s most outspoken voices against rising antisemitism and political extremism, a fight that is personal for him and for the community he represents,” his website says. However, his vote to keep U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar on the Foreign Affairs Committee came under criticism by some in the Jewish community.

“You don’t have to listen to me on whether my record is or is not on Israel,” Moskowitz said during the October public forum in Boca Raton. “It’s public. Listen to the antisemites and the people who are trying to come after me every single solitary day.”

Singer, a three-term mayor of Boca Raton and a Trump-endorsed Republican, ran on keeping taxes low, ensuring strong borders and national defense, and cutting waste, fraud and abuse. He planned to “work with President Trump and colleagues in Congress to advance common-sense solutions to improve our economy and protect our nation,” his website said.

Moskowitz will take office on Jan. 3, 2027, in the 120th U.S. Congress.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who placed their trust in me, and to the volunteers and supporters who made this victory possible,” Moskowitz said. “Whether you voted for me or not, I will work every day to earn your trust and represent every corner of this district.”
