Presley Gerber, the only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, died Sunday.

The model was 27.

Gerber died at a rehab facility, according to online records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. A rep for Crawford and Gerber, Allie Jenkins, confirmed the death to The Associated Press late Sunday. An autopsy was pending.

Besides his parents, he left behind a sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber.

Presley Gerber had been open about his mental health struggles in the past, as detailed by People.

Crawford and Rande Gerber, a businessman and co-founder with George Clooney of Casamigos tequila, have been married since 1998. Jenkins said the family would have no immediate comment.

“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Jenkins said in an emailed statement.

Gerber had last appeared in public on June 11, when he spoke on a panel discussion about mental health, according to People. Photos showed him smiling, flanked by his mother and father, who were there in support.

Gerber had been arrested and charged with DUI in 2019, when he was 19, after police pulled him over for speeding. It was his first brush with the law, his lawyer said at the time, noting that his client was “taking the necessary steps to address the allegations.”

Back then, Gerber was already an accomplished model for brands such as Calvin Klein and had appeared in major magazines. Signed by IMG Models at age 15, Gerber debuted on the runway for Moschino in Los Angeles, followed soon after by a Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan, People recounted. In 2018, he and his mom recreated Crawford’s 1992 Super Bowl ad for Pepsi.

After his DUI arrest, Gerber became more public about his mental health and substance abuse issues and treatment. In 2023 he set out to help others contending with mental health challenges, telling the hosts of the “Studio 22” podcast that he wanted to raise awareness, erase stigma and potentially help others avoid mistakes he felt he had made.

Kaia Gerber, 25, recently touched on her own experience as part of a family affected by addiction.

“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” “The Shards” actor told Vogue for a story published Aug. 11. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.”

She was incredibly proud of her big brother for publicly discussing his mental health.

“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything,” she told Vogue. “And now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ ”
