NEW YORK — Veteran Fox News anchor John Roberts is opening up on his “severe” case of malaria after suffering “uncontrolled shivering” while on the air this week.

The 68-year-old, who refuted AI reports of his death earlier this year, revealed he’s currently battling a serious bout of the mosquito-borne illness that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns can be life-threatening “if not quickly diagnosed and appropriately treated.”

Roberts said he was diagnosed with the potentially fatal disease on Monday.

“I had been hurting from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. Literally everywhere,” he told People. “I was also beset with uncontrolled shivering all during my show.”

The “America Reports” host said he initially thought the symptoms he experienced were “just muscle cramps and aches” until he began shivering. That’s when he began believing he had the flu.

After a visit to the rheumatologist, who determined his platelets and white blood cells were both low, he rushed to the emergency room, where he officially received his diagnosis.

“I thought, ‘Of course you have malaria … You never do anything in small measures,'” Roberts said. “But I was a little scared. Malaria can be deadly if left unchecked.”

“I don’t know exactly how ‘severe’ it was from a medical classification, but it sure felt severe,” he added. “I have never felt that sick in my life.”

While thanking Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher for filling in for him on air, Roberts said on social media he was “the only person in the hospital with malaria. In fact, one of my doctors said I’m the first case he has ever seen.”

There are approximately 2,000 cases of malaria diagnosed every year in the U.S., according to the CDC.
