Kendra Duggar rents out home to bail out husband Joseph Duggar in child sex abuse case
Published in News & Features
Kendra Duggar is reportedly renting out her home and selling some personal items to help cover husband Joseph Duggar’s $600,000 bail.
According to People, 31-year-old Joseph posted the $60,000 required for his release from custody on Friday, after he pleaded not guilty to child sex abuse charges in Florida. He is facing counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious contact, police said. The “19 Kids and Counting” alum has since returned to his native Arkansas, where his wife has already begun preparations to offset the financial burden that comes with mounting a legal defense.
Kendra, who has been married to Joseph for eight years now, is reportedly gearing up to move out of her home and transform it into a rental property. People also reported that she has listed some of the family’s belongings for sale.
Joseph was arrested in Tontitown, Arkansas, last month, after an unidentified teen girl accused him of sexual assault. She told officers that she was on vacation in 2020 with her family in Panama City Beach, Florida, when Joseph touched her inappropriately.
In one instance, he “asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket,” according to a statement from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. “During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs.”
In addition to the molestation case, Joseph and Kendra were both charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment. Police said those charges are unrelated to the molestation allegations.
Kendra was briefly jailed before being released on bond.
Shortly after she was freed, Kendra and Joseph brainstormed ways to make money during a jailhouse phone call, the audio of which was obtained by People. Some options included selling their trailers, their four-wheeler, a pressure washer, a waterproof tarp and a wood splitter, among other things.
