Texas AG Ken Paxton's wife files for divorce, citing infidelity

The lawmaker wife of scandal-tarred Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed for divorce on Thursday, citing “recent discoveries” and infidelity.
State Sen. Angela Paxton said she moved to end her power marriage of 38 years to the Republican U.S. Senate candidate “on biblical grounds,” a euphemism for adultery.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” Angela Paxton tweeted. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
Angela Paxton, cited Ken Paxton’s infidelity in court papers filed in a suburban Dallas court. She won her husband’s old legislative seat when he won statewide office after singing on the campaign trail that she was a “pistol packin’ mama and my husband sues Obama.”
Ken Paxton, who survived a corruption scandal and impeachment trial that included allegations of a steamy extramarital affair, put a different spin on the couple’s road to splitsville, blaming the divorce on “countless political attacks and public scrutiny.”
“Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” Paxton tweeted.
Ken Paxton, a stalwart supporter of President Donald Trump, is running in the 2026 GOP primary to unseat incumbent veteran Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who is considered more of an establishment conservative.
Democratic ex-Rep. Colin Allred, who ran a strong but ultimately unsuccessful race in 2024 against Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is running for the seat.
Analysts on both sides of the aisle believe Cornyn would be a stronger general election candidate, although any GOP standard-bearer would be favored given Texas’ strong Republican lean.
Republicans hold a 53-47 edge in the Senate meaning Democrats would have to flip four seats to win the majority in 2026. That would be very tall political order since only two seats now held by Republicans in swing states are up for grabs.
